MUTARE cricket franchise, Mega Market Mountaineers’ partnership with the fast-moving consumer goods entity – Mega Market – has been renewed ahead of the start of the new season, marking the fourth consecutive year of the pact.
The star-studded franchise, fondly referred to as The Mountain Goats, are coming from a hugely successful season where they snatched both the Logan Cup and Pro50 titles.
With naming rights sponsor held by Mega Market (Pvt) Ltd, the Mega Market Mountaineers have also attracted corporate partnership from Willowton Group Zimbabwe (Pvt) Ltd, who have the front of shirt branding, while Victoria Falls Safari Lodge Hotel (Pvt) Ltd have the back of shirt branding space.
Mega Market Mountaineers general manager, Terry Nyakurimwa, thanked the sponsors and fans, and attributed the franchise’ success of the previous season to them.
“We are grateful for the unwavering support of our fans and sponsors – Mega Market, which was instrumental in the success of last season. Achieving victories in both the Logan Cup and Pro50 were significant accomplishments for our team. We remain committed to surpassing expectations this season and maintaining the high standards of excellence our fans anticipate,” said Nyakurimwa.
In a separate interview, coach, Stuart Matsikenyere, said his team is expecting to maintain their dominance this upcoming season.
“We are excited and looking forward to the new season. It is always good to be in Mega Market Mountaineers space, where we are always challenging ourselves to be the best version of ourselves every season, and aiming to be the model squad for Zimbabwean teams in many aspects,” he said.
With talented Dangamvura-born Tendai ‘TC’ Chatara captaining the white ball and Wellington Masakadza in the same role for the red ball, Mountaineers are set to begin their campaign on November 6 with a four-day Logan Cup assignment away to Tuskers at Queens Sports Club, Bulawayo, before taking on the same outfit in a Pro50 encounter on November 11.
The Mountain Goats will host Rocks from November 17 to 20 at Mutare Sports Club in their second Logan Cup match before they play the same side on November 22 in a Pro50 clash.
Mountaineers will travel to Harare to play against Eagles from November 28 to December 1 in a Logan Cup match at Harare Sports Club before the two sides play a Pro50 encounter on December 3 at Harare Sports Club.
Mountaineers will get down to another Logan Cup assignment against Rhinos at Mutare Sports Club from December 9 to 12 before the two teams play a Pro50 match on December 14 at the same venue.
