MASHONALAND Eagles were left shell-shocked after Mountaineers landed them a massive seven-wicket home defeat in the domestic Pro50 match at Harare Sports Club yesterday.
The home side was bowled out for 107 runs in 37.5 overs after being sent in to bat first.
Their batting left a lot to be desired and they could have capitulated for an embarrassing low total had the Mountaineers not bowled 22 runs in extras.
Kevin Kasuza opened the batting leading the Mountaineers quick chase blasting six boundaries and two sixes before being bowled out by Eagles fast bowler Gerald Aliseni for 46 from 45 deliveries.
Mountaineers lost Timycen Maruma (7) and Forster Mutizwa (10) but this was always a low target.
Hamilton Masakadza then finished the easy task with an unbeaten 41 from 39 balls.
The home team horror script was mirrored in the Masvingo Sports Club match where Southern Rocks lost to Kwekwe giants Midwest Rhinos by 10 wickets, thanks to a 146-run opening stand by Bradley Wadlan (78) and Vusi Sibanda (63).
Wadlan, a 25-year-old import from England, also contributed significantly with the ball using his left-arm slow orthodox spin to claim three wickets for 26 runs in 10 overs as the rocks were bowled out for 145 runs in 39.5 overs.
Due to the condensed fixtures in the Zimbabwe Cricket domestic calendar the teams will face each other in the Logan Cup, Eagles will still host the Mountaineers while the Rocks will play the Rhinos at the same venues today.
