MOURNERS have started converging at Retired Colonel Tshinga Dube’s residence following his death on Thursday night.
Rtd Col Dube (83) died from kidney failure at Mater Dei Hospital. Rtd Col Dube is a pioneer liberation stalwart who is credited for training some of the country’s freedom fighters.
Zanu-PF politburo member Cde Molly Mpofu who was at the Dube residence said Rtd Col Dube said Bulawayo and the country is devastated with his death.
She said President Mnangagwa earlier in the week had been informed over the critical state of Rtd Col Dube leading to deployment of specialists’ doctors to assess him.
“We are devastated by the death of ubaba uTshinga. He was our shade as a province. Since his life deteriorated, I was told about his case and we informed the President during the last Politburo meeting where doctors were deployed to check on him. He was an unwavering cadre of the party,” said Rtd Col Dube.
She said while his national hero status is not even a subject for debate, the party has processes to ensure that President declares him.
Matabeleland North, politburo member Cde Alice Dube described Rtd Col Dube as a national leader who groomed her to become a politician she is today.
She said Rtd Col Dube belongs to a rare crop of leaders who sacrificed it all to ensure that Zimbabwe attained independence and even post independence made contributions to the development of the country.
