Move over Messi!

For his age, Ebenezer is one of the most celebrated young sports stars in the UK.

Born in the UK to Zimbabwean parents Mercy and John, Ebenezer is the new kid on the block especially in the “18 Area”.
While his peers go on about sucking on lollipops or munching on meals from maybe Macdonalds, or spending time on Whatsapp and Facebook among other things, Ebenezer is living his dream as soccer star, playing for Old Wulfrun.

Just like what happened to Justin Bieber, who was spotted on the Internet by American talent manager Cooper Braun to become one the finest teenagers in the music industry.
This is the same with Ebeneezer who started playing soccer at the age of eight.

“I used to go around with my dad at stadiums where he used to train with boozers. That is when my passion for soccer grew. Back then, my father used to teach me skills though the ball was too big for me,” he laughingly said.

Ebenezeer, who is  in the 7th Grade at Christ Church School in England, later was contracted by Warstone Club under Wolverhampton Academy to play for them.
According to his father John Mutoko, Ebenezeer wishes to play for Zimbabwe U14, if given a chance. Cool Lifestyle this week chatted with the young lad in a telephone interview.
Ebenezeer said he is left winger playing No. 11.

“I am on the attacking side that is where my strength is. My strength is on attacking. My role model is my father who has been supporting me since day one I started liking soccer,” he said.

Ebenezeer said as young as he is, he has won many accolades which will make senior local players green with envy.
“I am already a superstar. To date I have medals and Golden Boot awards which prove that my future is bright when it comes to soccer,” he said.

Ebenezeer is inspired by Barcelona star Lionel Messi and it’s his dream to meet him.
“My stunts on the pitch are like Lionel Messi, the great Argentine because I know how to dribble past my opponents. As young as I am, I have the stamina and pace,” he beamed.

Commenting on how he balances schooling and sport, he said it is about priority.
“I train every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday for about two hours before the big game on Sunday, if we have any.

“I have created myself a timetable where I do my homework first then read for an hour each day. It is a matter of prioritising what you want in life and what you cherish most,” he said.

Ebenezeer said apart from his passion for soccer, he wants to be a science teacher when he finishes school.
He added that to stay in shape he has an eating plan.

“Our coach encourages us to eat at least two vegetables and three fruits a day. During weekends I take a jog together with my mother.
“I used to love sweets and chocolates but after my coach explained to me how sweets and soccer don’t mix, I later stopped eating them but believe you me it wasn’t easy.

“Looking at me now I may be young but I am strong like an 18-year-old,” he said.
