When hip-hop clique Movip announced their return on the local music scene last year, they vowed to contribute to the industry in a way that would uplift it to world class standards. Through their video and audio production company, Movip Entertainment, the group is making positive strides in achieving that. What is more impressive is how they are exposing talented underground artistes by giving them an opportunity to record top quality singles and demos.
While they are now into music production, they have not stopped making their own music.
Their continued ventures into solo projects, however, leaves one wondering if they will ever be the combined Movip Crew that used to pump hit after hit, back in the day.
The following are some of the productions that have come from the stable:
Jaybone – “I love You”
The founder of Movip, Jason “Jaybone” Wyngard’s latest love single “I Love You” showcases the softer side of the rapper. A welcome break from the usual hard core hip-hop about his life in the hood, he shows maturity and composure. While professing his new experience in love, he throws in “I’m a gangster in hard core. In stone cold. I run the streets and run them good”.
That is enough to remind fans he has not gone that soft. The song’s remix features an equally talented emerging artiste, 2 Cliks.
Reno – “Bubbling”
Reno, real name Carl Mazendame sounded good during his Movip days but his solo career is not bad. He takes us back to the “hey, ho!” days in the first verse of the single “Bubbling”.
There is substance in his content and one cannot help but bounce along to the beat.
Fuzzy L – “Africa Unite”
Manzul Fazilahmed has managed to establish his brand that stands out from other contemporary reggae artistes. Although, unorthodox, Fazzy L as he is known, is on to something with his carefree style that fuses reggae calypso.
In his first single “Toda Kufara” the businessman-cum-car spinner made a mark on the underground music circles.
He has struck gold again with new single “Africa Unite” that shows continuation from where he started. Just like American rapper Future, Fazzy L surely knows how to make catchy choruses that stick in a person’s mind in a good way. Besides that, the song is has a brilliant message, beautiful vocals and the Midas touch of hip-hop star Jaybone.
Brighton Phiri – “Zvichaita”
Away from the hip-hop, Kwekwe-based uprising singer Brighton Phiri has a story to tell with debut single, “Zvichaita”. Again, a Movip Entertainment production, the song is a touching inspirational track about perseverance in times of hardships.
His voice is mellow and one cannot help but be reminded of one hit wonder Ronny Huni from Marondera.
MychaelK – “Together Forever”
MychaelK, real name Michael Karangura might just be the next best thing to happen to the local R n B scene. With his romantic debut single “Together Forever” the 22-year old heartthrob has enough soul to make any woman blush.
Bry360 – “Christ All the Way”
On a gospel tip and still in hip-hop, Brighton “Bry360” Wiseman is proving the genre can be used to spread positivity in communities. A member of gospel hip-hop clique Christhood,distance has not stopped the group from producing good music. With the help of Anonzi Xander, he works online with other members Eldeeper and Scorpel who are based in South Africa. His solo project, however, has seen him making his mark on local radio stations. His singles “Christ All the Way”, “Get High”, “Touch Down”, “Behind Enemy Lines” and try harder are being received well especially among the youths.
The video for “Christ All the Way” will be officially launched on his birthday, April 19.
