DAVID MOYES could be set for a return to management with Galatasaray after he flew to Turkey to discuss the vacancy with the club’s board. Moyes was sacked by Manchester United back in April, just 10 months after he had been chosen by Sir Alex Ferguson to succeed him in the manager’s chair at Old Trafford.
It was a daunting challenge Moyes could not turn down, but it proved to be a brutal experience for the Scot, who never looked comfortable in the role after more than a decade at Everton.
Moyes has always been attracted by the idea of managing abroad and
he is aware of the fact Galatasaray are one of the best supported clubs in Europe.
Having turned down a couple of approaches from interested clubs as he recovered from his United failure, the 51-year-old appears ready to return to the dugout. Moyes would have plenty of offers to get back into management if he wanted to stay in England, but he also wants to increase his exposure to the Champions League.
Galatasaray parted company with former Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini last month after a disappointing season and Moyes
has signalled he is interested in the job.
Galatasaray are thought to be willing to pay Moyes £4m-a-year to take over before the start of the new season. While he will be expected to win trophies in his first season, the move to Turkey will allow him to rebuild his career without having to face constant reminders of what went wrong at United.
A Galatasaray spokesman said: “The president has given a speech about it. He said that we just spoke with David Moyes and he said that he can come to Galatasaray but he is not one of the main targets for us.
“They just spoke to each other, exchanging ideas – that is it. It is true the president talked with David Moyes.
“We are not in a rush, we are waiting for the end of the World Cup. The first two targets are Loew or Klinsmann.”
Speaking last month Moyes told reporters: “I have had a couple of opportunities to go back in and chosen not to do anything just now. I am going to look for what I feel is the right opportunity.”
He added: “I got my real first taste of the Champions League this year and I thought I showed I can manage at that level,” he added. “I would like somewhere that would give me a chance of being in the Champions League or a club that has ambitions of being in the Champions League.
“It could be at home or abroad. I have always liked the thought of broadening my horizons and learning a bit more and at the moment I am quite comfortable watching and learning. I will go away and learn and look again to see what is happening.” — The Telegraph
