THE 6th CEO Africa Round Table forum ended in Victoria Falls yesterday amid calls for politicians and captains of industry to work together to turn around the economy.
Matabeleland North Provincial Affairs Minister Richard Moyo who officiated at the closing ceremony said the new Zimbabwe had adopted an engagement agenda.
He said there was a close relationship between politics and economic activity.
“Politics and economy are closely related and a stable political environment guarantees economic development. We need to engage in genuine national dialogue which has been initiated by President Mnangagwa as that is the way to go to resuscitate the economy,” said Minister Moyo.
He called for an all-stakeholder approach in the fight against corruption.
Minister Moyo also highlighted the importance of investing in research saying this will help stir growth in Africa and eventually wean the continent from the donor syndrome.
He said the new republic was committed to building a spirit of togetherness for all citizens to work together. The theme for the conference which started on Wednesday and ended yesterday was: “From talk to unified action towards a more responsible and inclusive national economy.”
Chief executives of different companies called for national dialogue to discuss fiscal and social challenges facing the country.
Participants said the country should build gold reserves for it to be competitive.
They said Government should also urgently address economic fundamentals and ensure financial discipline.
There were also calls to adopt private-public partnerships. The private sector was challenged to venture into partnership with the Government to implement developmental projects. — @ncubeleon
