MOZAMBICANS living in Zimbabwe yesterday voted to elect their next president and legislative representatives in a development that deepens a democratic tradition initiated in 1994 after the signing of a peace deal with former rebel movement, Renamo.
They were no queues at various polling station in Zimbabwe as voting started around 9am.
Mozambique set 60 polling stations in Zimbabwe with more than 33 000 eligible to vote.
In an interview, Mozambican Consular to Zimbabwe Mr Agostinho Manhama said the voting process went on well in Zimbabwe.
“The Mozambicans started trickling to cast their vote as early as 9am. We hope all registered voters will cast their vote. As you can see Mozambicans are excited about voting,” he said.
President Filipe Nyusi is stepping down and the party’s presidential candidate Daniel Chapo is expected to replace him.
