GOVERNMENT has urged the police to remain alert as refugees and undesired elements are likely to flock into Zimbabwe if Renamo continues with its insurgence in Mozambique. This was said by Home Affairs Deputy Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi as he addressed senior police officers attending a 2013 senior officers conference in Harare yesterday. He said that the force played an important role in ensuring that peace prevailed in the county.
“We have to be on the lookout,” he said. “We play an important part, a very big part actually. As the disturbances occur we are likely to see an influx of refugees here, an influx of undesired elements into our country and it is my belief and trust that we will take care of that.”
Deputy Minister Ziyambi said the officers should be aware that Zimbabwe’s detractors would not tire in their efforts to continue suffocating Government’s endeavours to empower and develop Zimbabweans.
He urged the police commanders to be vigilant and be able to detect any suspicious activities that were likely to destabilise the country.
Deputy Minister Ziyambi applauded the officers for working hard and coming up with resolutions during the conference.
“Many times we may concentrate on the other security forces, but even then they also rely on us for peace and tranquillity and I believe the work that you have been doing for the past three days is aimed at ensuring that as a country, we enjoy the peace that we have been enjoying since independence,” he said.
