The Herald beefs up team

Herald Editor Caesar Zvayi has announced a reshuffle and appointment of desk editors that has seen the Zimpapers flagship become the only newspaper in Zimbabwe with the highest number of women in managerial positions.
Six out of the paper’s 11 desks are now headed by female editors in line with regional and global trends to promote the participation of women in the media, politics and other socio-economic sectors.

Pursuant to implementing the Zimpapers Group’s gender policy which seeks to give women a voice in the group’s publications and digital and electronic platforms, a gender desk has also been set up.

All the appointments, Zvayi said, were not influenced by affirmative action but were determined by the competence of each staffer who had to shrug off stiff competition from male counterparts. Multiple award winning journalist Roselyne Sachiti has been appointed Features Editor, taking over from Isdore Guvamombe.

Sachiti had been deputy features editor since 2009.

Monica Cheru Mupambawashe rejoins The Herald as Lifestyle Editor with a special brief to enhance the lifestyle section into an upmarket, engaging read.

Happiness Zengeni, a respected business journalist and economic analyst, has been appointed Business Editor, taking over from Fanuel Kangondo, who assumes the post of Assistant Lifestyle Editor, where he is expected to generate content and interaction with movers and shakers of the corporate world.

Ruth Butaumocho, who was Entertainment Editor becomes the Gender Editor and has been replaced by former Alpha Media Holdings group entertainment editor Godwin Muzari.

Muzari brings a wealth of experience having cut his journalistic teeth at The Herald and Sunday Mail before joining AMH.

Prolific writer Tichaona Zindoga rejoins The Herald as Senior Political Writer after a brief stint in South Africa. He brings to the team depth and exciting analytical skills that will add immense value to the section.

“The changes are meant to strengthen the paper in all sections to maintain market dominance,” Zvayi said.
The Herald has maintained its position as the national flagship by keeping its lead in both the Zimbabwe All Media Products Survey, and Marketers Association of Zimbabwe superbrand awards.
