HARARE’S Theatre in the Park is set to host the Bantu Musical Vibes concert featuring Mozambican star Isau Meneses and local mbira player Taffie Matiure this evening.
This would be Meneses’ maiden performance in Zimbabwe, thanks to Rooftop Promotions.
In a statement, event organisers said fans will pay any amount they are comfortable with.
Meneses plays a traditional instrument called Útse, an acoustic guitar and keyboard, while Matiure is an accomplished mbira star.
The organisers also called for more cultural exchange programmes between Zimbabwe and Mozambique artistes to uplift the two countries’ music.
“These would include music festivals, workshops, and joint concerts, allowing musicians to share their styles and reach new audiences, as well as encourage and support collaborative music projects between artists from both countries,” said the organisers.
“This could involve co-producing songs, creating joint albums, or organising collaborative tours. These projects can help blend different musical influences and appeal to a broader audience.”
He is set to thrill fans with songs that include “Tapi Djee,”, “Pissacoma”, “Thakutha”, and “Há esperança”.
Narrating his musical journey, Meneses made a public debut performance in 1976 with a youth band in Mafambisse, Dondo District.
In 1983, he launched his career in Beira and won a cultural parade a year later.
He, however, declined an invitation from Poligramp, a record company in Zimbabwe, to record an album in 1985 as he prioritised his studies.
His counterpart, Matiure, embraces diversity, imagination and integrity.
He has appeared at Zimfest USA (2018, 2019), MUHAG (2021), and Good Food Festival (2021), among others, and at many famous music venues, including Zimbabwe German Society, Gava’s Restaurant, Alliance Francê, Cosmopolitan Restaurant, and Bar and Chez Zandi.
He holds a Bachelor of Science Honours degree in Music Business, Musicology, and Technology from the Midlands State University.
