BEITBRIDGE West legislator, Cde Thusani Ndou, is actively engaging stakeholders in his constituency to mobilise resources for the creation of community policing forums.

These forums aim to support the police in combating crime, particularly the ongoing issue of stock theft, which has become a significant challenge in the area.

In an interview, Cde Ndou said villagers recognise the severity of crime, especially since livestock production is a primary source of livelihood for most farmers in his constituency.

Community members have united to appoint representatives from surrounding villages to spearhead the initiative.

“We have had concerns from community members over the rise in stock theft and other related cross-border crimes in our area,” said Cde Ndou.

“They have decided to form community policing forums to support the efforts by the Zimbabwe Republic Police in fighting crime.”

Cde Ndou noted the necessity of a collective approach to crime prevention, saying the local leadership is mobilising resources to make this initiative a reality.

He said effective crime control requires co-operation and equipping the youth with essential knowledge and tools.

A community forum has already been launched in the Tshamunanga area to address rampant stock theft, with plans to establish a similar committee in the Shashe area, which borders South Africa and Botswana.

Cde Ndou said working alongside local police is vital for fostering community safety.

These community policing forums would enhance collaboration, improve safety, and strengthen the trust between residents and the police.

“In the long run, such forums will help to boost collaboration, improve safety, and strengthen the trust between the community and the police,” he                                                         said.
