Zanu-PF legislator for Mhondoro-Ngezi Mike Gava (32) on Thursday allegedly fired a pistol in a Kadoma casino and force-marched an unidentified woman to his car at gunpoint as he threatened to sexually assault her.The alleged offences occurred at around 11pm and Gava was said to be drunk when has arrested.
Yesterday, he was still in police custody in Kadoma.
A police source said Gava blew “more than $400 in the casino and would sometimes brandish his gun and put it on the table”.
Gava allegedly “tested” his Star pistol by firing a shot at a window resulting in some of the patrons scampering for cover.
He then allegedly force-marched a female patron at gunpoint to his Ford Ranger saying “nhasi ndiri kutoenda newe. Ndinoda kuita mwana newe” (Today I am going with you, I am going to make you pregnant).
Police said Gava drove the woman to his farm in Kadoma. It is said he disembarked from the vehicle and left the gun on his seat as he went looking for his house keys.
“The woman hid the gun in the vehicle and ran away but Gava noticed it and gave chase. He caught up with her and started assaulting her. He drove off and left her at the farm,” the police source said.
The woman reportedly phoned for a taxi and reported the case to the police. Police arrested Gava and recovered the gun. He is expected to appear in court soon.
Police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Paul Nyathi said he was not aware of the matter.
“I am still checking with police in Mashonaland West province,” he said.
Gava’s phone was not reachable.
