GOVERNMENT is committed to improving the learning environment of pupils in rural areas where schools are recording low pass rates due to inadequate provision of basic needs like water, food and shelter. Speaking recently on the sidelines of the commissioning of a borehole at Madombwe Primary School, where he also donated RTGS$3 000 for the acquisition of furniture, Mazowe North Member of National Assembly Cde Campion Mugweni said there was need to revive the education system in rural schools.
Madombwe, which is in the mountainous part of Chiweshe Village, is constantly haunted by water woes with villagers walking long distances in search of clean water.
“We have commissioned a borehole at the school. This is in fulfilment of part of our electoral promises to come up with more boreholes in this part of the constituency.
“I am also concerned about the low pass rates in some schools in my constituency. Some of the contributing factors are lack of access to clean water, shelter and food. This impacts on the learners’ performance in class,” said Cde Mugweni.
He said another borehole would be commissioned at Mudavanhu Primary School this month.
“We are also working hard to ensure that the acquires a centre number as per the requirements of the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education which entail that they have to be an administration block and Grade Seven classroom for learners to sit for the national examinations there.
“We are donating 200 bags of cement for the construction of these blocks through Rickman Enterprises,” added Cde Mugweni.
