Mpandawana Town Board has applied to Government for 600 hectares of land to develop new houses as part of the town’s expansion drive.
The town board wants to use the land to develop more than 3 000 housing units and reduce the number of people on its housing waiting list.
Mpandawana Town Board administrator Mr Joseph Ndahwi said they were working on a concept plan, which will pave way for the crafting of the town’s master plan, once the land application has been approved.
“We have applied to Ministry of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing’s department of physical planning for 600 hectares at Chomufuli Farm in Gutu,” he said.
“Our target is to develop about 3 000 housing units to reduce the housing backlog in the town and this is part of our ambitious infrastructural development project for the next few years.”
He said the board has lined up a number of developmental projects, such as the rehabilitation of roads and other infrastructure in the town.
The Mpandawana Town Board administrator said there were about 3 052 houses under its jurisdiction.
