Mphela might start for Chiefs

KAIZER Chiefs striker Katlego Mphela might get to start for the club in today’s Nedbank Cup tie against Bidvest Wits after coming on and scoring against Free State Stars in midweek.“He’s been unfortunate we haven’t had many more training sessions and that we’ve been going constantly from one game to the next,” said coach Stuart Baxter as last season’s double winners attempted to salvage something from their season.

“I thought he did well when he came on; he linked well, he was lively, he got strikes around the goal. It’s very much an option for him to start on Saturday because Kingston (Nkhatha) has, with the injury to Knowledge (Musona), been playing through almost all the games and I’ve only been giving “Killer” small cameos. We may have to shuffle the pack for the cup game,” Baxter said in an interview with SuperSport.com

Mphela gave Chiefs a 69th minute lead in Polokwane on Wednesday only for Stars to equalise late and effectively ended AmaKhosi’s title hopes.

It was his first goal for Chiefs since his January transfer window move from Mamelodi Sundowns.
