Mphepo’s passion for arts

Award winning actor, Nash Mphepo has revealed his desire to produce a film that aims to tackle piracy. Mphepo, who won the 2014 NAMA outstanding actor award with the film “Decoder” which also won an award at the same accolades, is optimistic that he can use the arts for education and development.
“The arts can do wonderful things; art is all about making people believe and with adequate research it can be used to conscientise people on important issues and actually help in directing society towards desired goals,” said Mphepo.

The artist said the country has enough talent to fully flourish but problems such as piracy had to be tackled and he intends to use the arts to educate the public on the dark side of the problem.

“I’m working on a script about the effects of piracy on the sector and hope the public will be educated to desist and work with artists to push out the practice.

“Zimbabwe has got a lot of talent and I have a first hand experience through my travels into different schools but at times artists would rather follow other paths when they realise that they are not getting anything in the end,” explained Mphepo.

The actor who is still basking in the glory of pocketing two awards during the recently held NAMA said there is need for upcoming artists to be passionate about what they do in order to scale dizzy heights.

“You can never be a successful artist if you get into the frame because of money or purported glamour since there are dangers that both may elude you but there is need for one to be passionate about the arts and go beyond monetary benefits,” said Mphepo.

Mphepo began his acting career in 1995 and specialised in community theatre although he switched to television films in 2007 with the film “Suburban D” which he featured as McDonald.

From then on, Mphepo went on to feature in a number of short films and related productions such as “Pfuma”, “Masimba”, “Mudiwa” amongst others.

Acting blood flows in Nash’s blood as his brother Jasen is also heavily involved in film and theatre with four NAMA awards in his acting career amongst other accolades and recognitions.
