THE trial date has been set for the 29-year-old Bulawayo man who made headlines last year following his arrest for allegedly posing as a doctor at Mpilo Central Hospital.
Taurai Prosper Vanhuvaone of Barbourfields suburb who is facing two counts of fraud and one of misrepresentation, briefly appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Mr Challenge Mahembe.
Vanhuvaone who is on US$100 bail, was remanded to March 28 for trial.
His arrest followed a two-year stint allegedly masquerading as a doctor named “Prosper Mpofu” at both Mpilo Central Hospital and United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH). The accused allegedly operated undetected from an office at Mpilo, attending to patients and prescribing drugs.
It was stated that on August 17, 2023, Vanhuvaone allegedly misrepresented himself as a registered doctor to Miss Faith Hove at Mpilo, charging her US$120 for treatment. Hove became suspicious when her condition did not improve after the treatment. Between February 2023 and April 2023 Vanhuvaone allegedly defrauded Miss Samantha Ziki of US$1 600 after promising to assist her to enroll at
Mpilo Central Hospital School of Nursing.
The state alleges Vanhuvaone operated from the two hospitals for two years until he was unmasked by an alert nurse leading to his arrest.
