ZANU-PF Secretary for Economic Affairs Dr Obert Mpofu yesterday launched the party’s election campaign for  Matabeleland North at Malube Business Centre in Binga. Dr Mpofu castigated party leaders who are selfish and greedy, saying they were frustrating party supporters resulting in the party losing elections in the region.
Dr Mpofu, the party’s candidate for Umguza, who has taken upon himself to deliver the election victory for Zanu-PF in Matabeleland by assisting his colleagues in different constituencies, urged the people of Binga to vote for Zanu-PF.

“Some of our leaders are greedy and selfish. For instance President Mugabe donates agricultural inputs and maize to the people but you find the donation not reaching people because some leaders divert the consignments. This tendency is killing our party. We do not want such calibre of leaders because they are destroying our party,” said Dr Mpofu.

He challenged the electorate to vote for Zanu-PF, saying it was a tried and tested party that brought independence to the country and had had people at heart.

“You voted for MDC-T in the last 13 years, but they did not bring any development. All the clinics, roads and schools that you see were constructed by Zanu-PF. We are a tried and tested party that brought independence. MDC-T is an agent of the British sent to divide our people and cause problems and sufferings through sanctions,” he said.

Dr Mpofu urged party members to unite ahead of the harmonised elections to defeat the MDC formations.
He also urged losing candidates in the primaries to rally behind those who won so that the party wins in the elections.
“Let us support winning candidates in our primaries. In fact in our party we do not have losers and in any case we cannot all be leaders at the same time. Let us rally behind them,” said Dr  Mpofu, who is also the Minister of Mines and Mining Development.

He said MDC-T was afraid of defeat, which was why it has been calling for the postponement of the elections.
‘’MDC-T claims to be a democratic party but right now they are clamouring for the polls to be postponed because they fear losing. As Zanu-PF we are ready and we will win,” he said amid wild cheers from hundreds of supporters.

Dr Mpofu later addressed another rally attended by hundreds of supporters at Siansundu Business Centre.
He lashed out at non-governmental organisations (NGOs) meddling in politics instead of focusing on complementing Government efforts in spearheading development.

“NGOs are meddling in politics with some distributing unhealthy GMOs as some are campaigning for MDC-T. President Mugabe is distributing genuine maize,” he said.

A woman in the Women’s League, Ms Julian Muskwe, told the gathering that she left the NGOs due to their dirty work.
“I was working for NGOs and I can confirm that some of them are used by MDC-T to campaign on their behalf. I had to leave because of that,” she said.

Dr Mpofu took the opportunity to introduce party candidates to the people among them Dr Isaac Ndebele, who is standing in Binga North in the National Assembly.

Dr Mpofu said President Mugabe and the late VP Joshua Nkomo brought independence and urged the people to vote for the party. “President Mugabe and Dr Nkomo liberated this country not Tsvangirai, Makoni and other sell- outs so why vote for such people?”
He added that leaders should respect their people.

“As leaders we should respect our people because they are the ones who elect us. Zanu-PF does not condone crooks. Personally I do not fear anyone but the people who made me what I am. I respect people who gave me the mandate to lead them,” said Dr Mpofu.
Speaking at the same occasion, Matabeleland North Zanu-PF provincial chairperson Cde Richard Moyo urged people to vote for Zanu-PF, saying it was a people oriented party.

“Do not repeat what you did in the 2008 disaster when you voted for MDC-T. They have nothing to offer. Vote for Zanu-PF, which has people at heart,” he said.

Dr Mpofu would  today address supporters at Lusulu and Mulindi  in Binga South Constituency.
