In a shocking turn of events, the widely known and beloved shebeen, Manotsha, operated by Melusi Sibindi and Sinobukhosi Sibindi, has been raided by the police.
The couple, who have been running the establishment for years, catered to a diverse crowd, including members of the LGBTIQ+ community and opposition party supporters. However, this popularity eventually drew attention from authorities leading to the recent raid.
Manotsha, situated in the heart of the suburb, had become a safe haven for members of the community seeking camaraderie, relaxation, and a place to express their identities freely. The atmosphere created by Melusi and Sinobukhosi Sibindi, known for their welcoming nature and warm demeanor, made the shebeen a popular meeting point.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, a neighbour expressed regret over the outcome, stating, “I did what I thought was right, but I didn’t expect things to escalate this far. While I may have had concerns about Manotsha, I never wanted anyone to face harm or imprisonment.”
Community members, especially those from the LGBTIQ+ community and supporters of opposition parties such as the MDC and MRP, have rallied together in support of the Sibindi family. Calls for justice and transparency in the handling of the case have been echoed throughout the neighborhood.
