MP’s trial date set

Moses Mare’s trial for allegedly assaulting a 13-year-old boy at a funeral for singing the hit song “Nyatsoteerera”.
Mare was remanded out of custody on free bail to allow for the return of the trial magistrate Mr Enias Magate who was on leave and also to enable the State to complete investigations.
The State has said once investigations are done, it will present evidence showing the Chiredzi West legislator assaulted and injured Michael Tsunguru.
Several witnesses have been lined up to testify against Mare.
Senior State counsel Mr Liberty Hove alleges in January this year, Mare attended the funeral of an MDC-T party supporter’s child in Tshovani Township, Chire-dzi.
A 17-year-old girl started singing the song “Nyatsoterera”, which glorifies President Mugabe’s leadership.
Tsunguru and a child from the bereaved family joined in. Mare allegedly struck the boy resulting in damage to one of his ear drums. A police report was made leading to Mare’s arrest. – CR.
