Bulawayo Metropolitan Body Building and Fitness Association will on Saturday hold Mr and Ms Western Areas Novice at Iminyelaaï¿½ï¿½s Imbizo gym.

The event is expected to draw athletes from in and around the cityaï¿½?s body building gyms.

Speaking to B-Metro the organising secretary of the association Simon Gama said:

aï¿½?This is a must attend event especially those aspiring to contest in Mr and Ms Novice which will be held in Harare on 25 March at Pro Fitness gym.aï¿½?

He added: aï¿½?We believe the future of body building is the young athletes and that is why we have turned our focus on the up and coming athletes who have more zeal and energy. We want to make Bulawayo a force to reckon with and raise the countryaï¿½ï¿½s flag high.aï¿½?

He explained their strategy.

aï¿½?We work with school headmasters around the city and as such I go to the schools to identify the interested students.Aï¿½ Just last year we identified Tanya (15) from Speciss College,aï¿½? said Gama.

Gama, a veteran trainer said this would be an opportunity for other gyms to select their athletes who will battle it out for the accolades in Mr and Ms Novice at Pro Fitness gym.

Meanwhile, Bulawayo are the defending champions at the Ms Novice after Selina Manuel scooped the top award in 2016.

Gama noted that Bulawayo was becoming a stronghold in bodybuilding. Last year Paul Goredema was crowned Mr Zimbabwe while Shantel Greenland was crowned Ms Zimbabwe in a fierce contest.
