Mr Bones’ new ride brings relief

Rhumba musician Mxolisi “Mr Bones” Ndlovu has added a new set of wheels to his growing list of achievements, a move he says will make life easier for his band as they travel for shows across the country.

For years, the Giya Mkolekelwa hit-maker relied on hired vehicles to transport his team to performances, something he admits often strained logistics. The purchase of his own car now brings long-awaited convenience and independence to his operations.
“We’ve been working hard this year since moving back to Zimbabwe, performing almost every weekend. I used to hire cars for transport, which was costly and stressful. Now that I have my own vehicle, it will make things much easier for the band when we travel for shows,” said Mr Bones.

He said the new vehicle, a Toyota Hilux single cab, marks a turning point for his music outfit, allowing them to move freely and take up more performance opportunities without worrying about transport constraints.

The artiste, who recently launched his album Giya Mkolekelwa, has been one of the busiest acts on the Rhumba scene, performing across Matabeleland and beyond.
Mr Bones’ work ethic has also earned him three Bulawayo Arts Awards (BAA) nominations, Song of the Year, Best Rhumba Act, and Outstanding Male Artiste. His hit Bangihlangabeze nge Case (also known as Faka Two phezu Kwembodlela) has dominated parties and dance floors throughout the year.

Despite his recent success, Mr Bones said he remains focused on pushing his music career to greater heights.
“There’s money in our music if one works hard. My latest album is proof of that. The new car is not just a personal reward, it’s an investment in efficiency and progress for the whole band,” he said.

Beyond his musical pursuits, Mr Bones continues to uplift his community through his self-curated Izikhwama eGaramtata Music Festival, now in its second edition, which provides a platform for local artists to showcase their talent. – @themkhust
