BODYBUILDERS will converge at the Bulawayo movie theatre to battle it out in the annual Mr Bulawayo Bodybuilding Championship on Saturday.
The venue is situated at the Bulawayo Centre and is known to many as a joint that hosts cinema goers.
Last year, the Mr Bulawayo Bodybuilding Championship made a comeback after a three year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
It was for the first time that the show was open to everyone who was willing to participate regardless of the province they came from as the norm was always that participants should be from Bulawayo gyms only.
The competition falls under the National Federation of Zimbabwe Body Building and Fitness calendar.
“What most people are not aware of is that Mr Bulawayo includes bodybuilders from Matabeleland North and South Provinces as we as participants from local gyms so this time we reverted to that format and will not be allowing anyone outside of the provinces that I mentioned.
“We decided to spice things up by hosting the show at the movie theatre at Bulawayo Centre because the venue is central and easy to access, which will increase the number of people who will come and watch.
“Bodybuilding competitions are family friendly so we encourage the people of Bulawayo to come in their numbers and enjoy a good show that certainly be of value for their money,” said organising secretary for Bodybuilding Bulawayo, Simon Gama.
Reigning champion and perennial winner Lovemore Munyamana will not be contesting this year after he announced his retirement from the sport last year.
“This year we will definitely have a new champion and we are happy that a new generation of bodybuilders from gyms such as Body Works, Pro Active, Barberton, Scout, Dynamics, Muscle and Curves among others that are in and around the city are coming up so we expect the competition to be stiff,” added Gama.
The categories up for grab are as follows: Senior Men Bodybuilding, Junior Men Bodybuilding, Men Physique, Wheelchair and Women Bikini Fitness.
