Rhumba musician France “Mr Message” Moyo has joined a growing list of artistes returning home from South Africa to pursue opportunities in Zimbabwe’s music industry.

The singer, known for his message-driven rhumba style, relocated to Zimbabwe last year after spending years across the Limpopo. He now hopes to reconnect with local fans and build his career from home.

Originally from Godola in Tsholotsho, Mr Message has built a reputation for delivering thoughtful messages through his laid-back rhumba sound.

His return mirrors that of several prominent rhumba acts who have chosen to base themselves in Zimbabwe, including Mlambos Express Band, Insimbi ZeZhwane, Mxolisi “Mr Bones” Ndlovu and Kholwani “TK” Dube.
“I relocated home last year because it’s difficult to make ends meet in South Africa. I also decided to come home and concentrate on building my music career,” he said.

The musician credited fellow artiste Godolude for helping him settle back into the local music scene.
“I’ve benefited a lot from Godolude, who has been assisting me to settle as he has roped me into a number of shows,” he said.

Now based in Nkulumane 10 suburb in Bulawayo, Mr Message says he is determined to establish himself on the local circuit and expand his performance calendar.
“I’m home to stay. We’re open to bookings from promoters as I have a complete band for live shows. We’re working hard preparing to release our 2026 album, which might be out in August or September,” he said.

The Inotho YeGazi hit-maker said local music lovers have warmly welcomed him, although some were unaware that he had permanently relocated back home.

With seven albums already to his name – Mkhuzeni, Phumakimi, Umuntu Ngumuntu, Bayaphithizela, Bayangunguna, Ziyaamotshela and his latest 2025 release Kumakwa Olebhola, the artiste believes he still has much to offer the industry.

His latest album features seven tracks: eTsholotsho, Inhlonipho, Hotspot, Ginyilitshe, Umlilo, Ibhasilenu and the title track Kumakwa Olebhola.

While South Africa remains an important market for Zimbabwean musicians, many of the country’s most successful rhumba groups have maintained their base in Zimbabwe, only travelling south for performances.
