Mr Strong Man contest on

AT least 15 participants are expected to take part in this year’s Mr Zimbabwe Strongest Man event to be held at Harare Sports Club this coming weekend.

This year’s competition has assumed national status with participants from across the country expected to take part on Saturday night.

The event was introduced last year but at provincial level targeting Harare only and was won by Munya Mugayire. However, the event’s organiser, Henry Bindu, said for this year they are expecting participants from Bulawayo, Mutare and Gweru.

And the event incorporates strong men who will contest in events like car pulling, tyre flip and squats among several others. “The Zimbabwe Strongest Man is an event where we have guys pulling cars and tyre flipping. It’s an extension of body building and weightlifting but it’s still very new in Zimbabwe. We started last year when we started as Harare.

This is an event where it’s more of a test of strength, fitness and endurance. “We hosted together with Excel Fitness and this year it’s Mr Zimbabwe Strongest Man, we went a step further with it and this year we have a wider base of participants. ZRP is going to send their participants. Last year we had eight participants but this year we have 15. We have people coming from different parts of Zimbabwe, some are coming from Bulawayo, Mutare and Gweru.

“We have two guys that have confirmed their participation who are based in Botswana but are Zimbabweans. “This year we managed to get sponsorship unlike last year when we struggled to get sponsors, like the vehicles we are going to use we got them from TATA motors. We have a bus, a two tonne truck and we want to have challengers for a tipper,” said Bindu.

Bindu said they are hoping to develop to a level where they will compete in international events.

“We are going for it with the hopes of taking it to the international level.
