THE Meteorological Services Department (MSD) is closely monitoring Tropical Storm Faida, which has made landfall in northern Madagascar, as Zimbabwe experiences a dry spell in most parts of the country.
The storm is developing at a time when some regions have not received rainfall in the past two weeks, raising concerns over moisture stress on crops. However, the second half of the 2024/25 rainy season has generally been favourable, with good rains recorded across the country.
According to the MSD’s daily weather report, the department is keeping an eye on the storm’s trajectory and assessing its potential impact on Zimbabwe’s weather patterns.

“The MSD is monitoring Moderate Tropical Storm Faida, which has made landfall in the northern parts of Madagascar,” reads the statement.
While the dry conditions have raised concerns, the livestock situation has improved significantly due to improved pastures and increased water availability following the good rains.
The MSD forecasts rainfall to return on Saturday, potentially bringing relief to areas that have gone without rain in recent weeks. — @nqotshili
