THE Meteorological Services Department (MSD) has warned of isolated thunderstorms in parts of the country, urging members of the public to take precautions as the weather becomes increasingly unstable.
According to the latest MSD forecast, Matabeleland North, Bulawayo Metropolitan, Matabeleland South and Masvingo provinces are expected to experience briefly cloudy, humid and hot conditions tomorrow, with isolated thundershowers.
Conditions are expected to be mild in the morning and towards evening.
The warning comes as the country transitions into the rainfall season, with the MSD advising people to seek shelter indoors whenever thunder is heard.
“When thunder roars it is best to be indoors,” the department said in its weather advisory.
The public has also been warned against sheltering under trees during thunderstorms and advised to avoid standing near tall objects or water bodies.
For Tuesday, the MSD forecast windy and mild conditions for much of the day in Matabeleland South, southern areas of the Midlands, Manicaland and Masvingo provinces, with rain and drizzle expected in some areas.
The department advised residents in these areas to keep warm, plan their activities with rain showers in mind and carry raincoats where possible.
Meanwhile, Matabeleland North, Bulawayo Metropolitan, Harare Metropolitan, northern parts of the Midlands and all Mashonaland provinces are expected to experience brief cloudy periods and isolated thunderstorms on Tuesday.
Temperatures are expected to be warm during the day before becoming windy and mild towards evening.
The MSD also urged farmers and livestock owners to keep animals in safe places, away from rivers and dams during thunderstorms.
