During the Speech And Prize Giving Day held last week, Mhumha also encouraged the students to keep away from drugs.
The school has embraced the new curriculum with ease.
Msengezi High School has managed to get into the new curriculum, inclusive education with no difficulties leaving no one behind, in line with its pursuit for excellence.
The academic results of the year 2023 for O-Level, the pass rate stood at 71%, A-Level the pass rate stood at 97 %.
The school produced four students with 15 points at A-Level.
It expects to surpass this pass rate.
Mhumha said the pass rates in most areas have been good, way above other schools in its vicinity and other schools on its level.
“Our learners made us proud this year as they managed to scoop academic prizes at district level. We have also had excellent success in extracurricular activities such as sports, arts and cultural activities.
“Our volleyball teams, both boys and girls, did exceptionally well, they represented Mashonaland West Province and came out champions, the girls scooped gold and are the national champions and the boys managed to scoop bronze.
“A number of these athletes made it into the National Team. The handball Under-20 boys team also did exceedingly well, they are the Provincial Champions but unfortunately, they lost at national level because it was their debut entry at that level.
“They truly made us proud, even though they lost, they were indeed a force to be reckoned with.
“Among these handball players, one of them made it into the National Team and this player is none other than Oleran Bandera. Well done Oleran,” he said.
This year also saw Msengezi High School introducing traditional dance and the school participated at Provincial level.
“Parents, let’s support and encourage these youngsters to embrace cultural dances as they can earn a living though traditional dance and the person that quickly comes to mind who made it large through cultural dance and songs is Mbuya Chiweshe.
“This pandemic of drug abuse has ravaged our nation and even the world at large is greatly affected. It is eating away at our youth mostly and thereby robbing us as a nation of our future.
“There is no value whatsoever in drugs. Please stay away from drugs and promptly report to the school authorities anyone you see doing or distributing any form of drugs and intoxicating substances,” said Mhumha.
School headmaster, George Rambanepasi, said he was proud of what the school has achieved in the past year.
“As another academic year races by, we are proud that so many things have been achieved so far, and it is impossible to mention everything in detail.
“I will attempt to do justice, to some of the highlights of the many achievements and contributions, for this year.
“I do apologise to all people who have contributed to the remarkable year, whom I may fail to mention in my report.
“We are also cognisant of the fact that some children are not academically gifted, they have sporting and cultural gifts that we need to discover and develop.
“This year a number of our athletes had exceptional success in sport, at provincial and national level. I will give special mention to the Volleyball teams and Handball teams.
“The Volleyball team is on record in scooping awards in all the competitions that they have participated in, some volleyball players have been enrolled in various Universities through their excellent performance academically and in sports.
“As strong believers in holistic education, we offer our children a range of activities, such as public speaking, debate, clubs, music and drama. This is done because we realise that our children have diverse talents that we need to discover. Such activities bring out the creativity and commitment of our children.
“All achievements that I highlighted would not have been possible without the outstanding efforts of our teachers, deputy headmaster, administration staff, hostel staff and all support staff.
“In Musical Arts, Msengezi High School is a powerhouse and I am glad to announce that the school is now offering Musical Arts as a subject and the first group of learners in Musical Arts sat for ZIMSEC Examinations this year.
“Msengezi High is one of the few schools in the Province that are offering Musical Arts as an examinable subject.”
In its pursuit of excellence, Msengezi High School is very proud to announce that its Hearing Impairment Quiz team sailed through Provincial Competitions and are going to represent the school at National Level.
True to the theme of pursuing excellence, Msengezi offers quite a number of practical subjects which are examined by both HEXCO and ZIMSEC.
When these learners leave Msengezi High most of them will have HEXCO professional qualifications in Building Technology, Textiles Technology, Food Technology, Computers and Agriculture.
