Caf’s main reasons for condemning Zvishavane Town was that there are no hotels to accommodate visiting teams.
The only hotel in Zvishavane, Nilton Hotel, was gutted by a fire late last year.
In an interview yesterday, Msipa, showing a rare interest in soccer, said Caf’s decision was as shocking as it was repelling.
“The Caf decision is shocking. I am shocked that Caf can make such a decision. I did not know that Africans who know African standards and ways could make such a repelling decision,” he said.
Msipa, whose roots are in Zvishavane, said soccer was a sport that should be enjoyed by all regardless of their locality.
He said people in Zvishavane and those with links with the town spent the greater part of yesterday calling his office to register their displeasure with the Caf decision.
“I know this to be a Fifa policy and I believe it is also Zifa’s that all people should enjoy the game of soccer. The Caf decision flies in the face of efforts to develop and spread the game to all the four corners of the world. The people of Zvishavane are concerned. As far as they are concerned, this is their chance to watch international soccer. The whole of Zvishavane is really disappointed that Caf is not giving them the opportunity to watch their team play,” said Msipa.
