Msiz’Kay ropes in Sonkomose

During the winter season, the chill in the air penetrates to the core — the flesh straight to the bones, but couples in love can seek solace and warmth by staying close to each other.

As a way of encouraging love birds to stick together during such a cold time, award-winning artiste Msiz’Kay has collaborated with exciting up and coming poetess Sonkomose on a track titled Kuyagodola.

The song is a fusion of RnB and poetry that beautifully captures the meaning of the phrase “warmth of love” by emphasising the idea that being with the ones you love is the only thing that gives you comfort in the coldest of moments.

In Kuyagodola, Msiz’Kay brings the essence of African culture to the forefront which is also complemented by Sonkomose ballads on the heartfelt composition. The traditional elements seamlessly intertwined with contemporary RnB sounds, creating a unique musical experience that is both soul-stirring and culturally rich.

Msiz’Kay said the song was inspired by the characteristics of the winter season which has surprised many with extreme chills lately.

“Kuyagodola was inspired by a desire to warm things up during the winter and it was supposed to drop on my birthday as part of celebrations for iParty Ka Msiz’Kay last June, but the release was delayed by production related issues.

“I had fun working on this song. Firstly, I started solo on doing this song as I put on the first demo. After that I got my brother Taffy to join me in the studio and he laid down some keys for the song.

“At this point, it was already sounding like fire but it needed that extra spice which is where Sonkomose came in to add poetry to the song. I then had Kinah the music who came and added the lead guitar just to put the icing on the cake,” said Msiz’Kay.

The Kulula hitmaker has staged a number of shows with Sonkomose as a hyping act. He said he roped in the poetess on the song because of her unique talent.

“Sonkomose is massively talented and having her on the song was the much needed missing piece of the puzzle. Without her, the song would have been incomplete. Her poetry speaks so fluently to the essence of what keeps all of us warm when days are cold and when nights are even colder,” said Msiz’Kay.
