MIDLANDS State University successfully defended their Zimbabwe Universities Sports Association (ZUSA) title at the weekend.
MSU came into the games that had several disciplines as the defending champions after winning several medals last year and they continued from where they left.
The Gweru-based tertiary institution scooped 22 gold medals, 15 silver and 11 bronze medals to walk away as the overall winners.
This year’s ZUSA games were held in two categories with the first cluster held in Bulawayo a week ago while the second cluster was concluded at the weekend in the capital.
The Bulawayo cluster hosted golf, karate, darts, chess, table tennis, snooker, hockey and rugby while most ball games netball, soccer, volleyball and basketball where held in Harare. MSU had their arch rivals University of Zimbabwe coming second after they bagged 19 gold, 9 silver and 9 bronze medals.
Eleven of the 12 institutions affiliated with ZUSA took part.
Liberty Maidza the ZUSA president said they are happy with the events as they help them to prepare for the ZITSU games.
“We are happy that we managed to have the games and we are happy with the corporates who came on board and saw that the event was a success. “We are very grateful to our sponsors Old Mutual being the chief sponsor they did a splendid job to see the success of the games. Other corporates like Corporate 24, ZB Bank and Bakers Inn among others.
“All the affiliated members turned up for the games except for Ezekiel Guti University in Zimbabwe.
