Midlands State University afro-jazz outfit, Those Guys, will represent the province at the Chibuku Road to Fame finals to be held in Bulawayo this weekend. The college group finals were held at Musika Beer Garden Hall in Mutapa high-density suburb in Gweru on Saturday.
Those Guys walked away with $1 000 prize money after garnering 267,6 points ahead of sungura group On One, who came second with 259,9 points winning $500.
Yamis took third place and went home $300 richer.
The provincial finals co-hosted by Delta Beverages Chibuku brand and National Arts Council of Zimbabwe attracted 13 participants from the province’s eight districts.
Other groups that participated are Mbada Sounds, Easa, Shamiso and Crew, Chabvondoka, Express, Afro Switch, Afro Power Kings, Dakurahunanzva, Real Express and Vatumwa.
Merrymakers and beer patrons had something to take home after they were showered with giveaways in the form of money and products.
The occasion was graced by officials from National Arts Council of Zimbabwe and Delta Beverages Gweru branch.
National Arts Council of Zimbabwe provincial manager Abigail Sibanda said thanked the participants for being professional and graciously accepting their fate.
She urged losing participants to not to lose hope but to improve their act and stand a chance of representing the province at the finals.
“I would like to thank Delta Beverages for making the event worthwhile and for promoting the arts through the Road to Fame contests.
The environment was peaceful and we hope that our provincial winners will lift the Midlands flag high when they represent us at the national finals,” she said.
Moyo said there was a lot of talent in the province that was still to be identified and nurtured.
