A MIDLANDS State University (MSU) security guard is refusing to pay maintenance for his two children accusing his enstranged lover of seeking to ruin his marriage.
James Dhururu, who lives in Gweru with his wife and six children, told Bulawayo magistrate Takunda Mtetwa that Fungai Mazi, with whom he has two children, was using the court to settle scores with him.
“The only reason I’m here is because this woman is trying to end my marriage. On our way here she told me she was going to fix me,” said Dhururu.
“She told me she doesn’t even need the money she is requesting. Our first born son has started Grade One but his school fees hasn’t increased so I don’t see the need for an increment.”
Dhururu alleged that Mazi refused to take their children’s medical aid cards and that instead, she frequently calls him and his wife on their cellphones hurling insults at them.
Mazi, who lives in Bulawayo’s Nketa 8 suburb, was seeking an increase in maintenance from $60 to $120 for the upkeep of their two minor children aged three and four.
Mazi denied the allegations when quizzed by the magistrate. She said the school fees had actually decreased from last year.
“I’m not trying to fix him but he has to take care of his children. Her school fees for Grade Zero was $15 and it’s $10 for Grade One. The child needs new uniforms though,” Mazi said.
Magistrate Takunda Mtetwa increased the maintenance payments to $70 starting from the end of this month.
