MSU spreads to Bots, Swaziland

MIDLANDS State University has spread its wings to Botswana and Swaziland where it has partnered with Gaborone University College of Law as its affiliate and is incubating Amadi University College in Swaziland.

Speaking at a stakeholder’s meeting in Gweru on Wednesday, MSU acting Vice-Chancellor Professor Victor Muzvidziwa said the university has partnered with Gaborone University College of Law which will enrol law students from Botswana on behalf of MSU.

Prof Muzvidziwa said the university was also incubating Amadi University College in Swaziland to be a fully-fledged university.

He said the university’s endeavour to nurture other institutions of higher learning was part of the Sadc vision to harmonise the education system.

“I am glad to inform you that we are incubating an institution in Swaziland called Amadi University College. We have set up infrastructure there and we are waiting for the Council for Higher Education responsible for the accreditation. We also have an institution in Botswana, Gaborone University College of Law which is an affiliate of our institution. This is the spirit of Southern Africa Development Community region,” he said.

Prof Muzvidziwa said MSU recently successfully incubated Manicaland State University of Applied Sciences in Mutare to become a fully-fledged university and President Mugabe is expected to cap its first graduands this year.

“We have successfully nurtured Manicaland State University of Applied Sciences in Mutare which has now become a fully-fledged university. Its first graduands will be graduating this year,” he said.

Prof Muzvidziwa said MSU had in the past few years proliferated its jurisdiction to Zvishavane, and Harare.

“We have opened a campus in Zvishavane for the Faculty of Arts and Mining Engineering and many others. We also have a Harare campus. All in all we have enrolled more than 20 000 students at our institution,” he said.

MSU has plans to set up a School of Law in Kwekwe and opening another campus in Shurugwi.
