TWO Midlands State University students have been arrested for allegedly stealing electrical gadgets from female students in the campus residence.
Tafadzwa Nyausopo (23) and Milton James (23) who reside at Guinea Fowl Compound, Gweru appeared before magistrate Ms Judith Taruvinga facing six counts of unlawful entry and theft.
They pleaded not guilty and were remanded in custody to November 25.
Prosecuting, Ms Chipo Chitsunge told the court that on April 28 at around 10PM the two accused persons hatched a plan to steal from Kudakwashe Muroyi in her room in Rusununguko Hostel, at MSU.
“The accused persons proceeded to the complainant’s room and opened the door which was not locked and gained entry.
“On count two, whilst inside the accused persons stole one Mac Book Pro Apple laptop, one power bank, two laptop speakers, one G-tel cellphone, one black laptop bag and a blue purse containing $217.
“On November 16 at Chirandu Shopping Centre Nehosho suburb, Gweru Police officers who were on patrol approached the duo who had a laptop bag.
“The two accused persons dropped the bag and ran away but were arrested.
“They were interviewed and led the police to Brockley Farm where the Mac Book Pro Apple laptop and the black laptop bag were recovered,” said Ms Chitsunge.
The court heard that on the third count, using the same method as per count one, the two accused persons proceeded into Mitchell Matimbe’s room in China Hostel.
They stole one Lenovo laptop, one Lenovo power bank, a Samsung Galaxy S3 and a Samsung Galaxy Trend.
“On count six the accused persons proceeded to Priveledge Hundudza’s room in China Hostel and gained entry through a partially opened door.
“While inside, they stole one Samsung Galaxy S3 mini and one Alcatel cellphone,” said Ms Chitsunge.
The value of goods stolen is $2 272 and the $217 cash was not recovered.
