Acting police spokesperson for Midlands province, Assistant Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said the two, a 19 year-old man and his 20-year-old female partner were arrested last Thursday.
“The two, a 20 year-old female student at the Midlands State University and her 19-year-old partner, again a student at the institution were arrested on Thursday after a pornographic video in which they featured was distributed on the internet through social networks,” he said.
Asst Insp Mahoko said the incident came to light after the University’s security personnel got wind that some nude videos featuring University students were circulating within the campus.
“Police then launched some investigations leading to the arrest of the two students. The video, which was initially stored by the two lovebirds on their laptops had found its way into social networks like Facebook and Watsup,” he said.
Asst Insp Mahoko warned youths from recording pornographic material saying such an act was an offence in terms of the Zimbabwean laws.
“It is a crime to be found in possession of pornographic material or being involved in pornographic material. Most youths enjoy recording such material with their cellphones and laptops. Let them be warned that it is an offence to be found in possession of such materials,” he said.
The arrest of the two came amid revelations that there were more pornographic videos that were being shot at the institution by the students.
Chronicle is in possession of yet another set of pornographic material, which was allegedly shot by students from the MSU, which again is on social networks.
Efforts to get a comment on the latest addition of the pornographic videos by MSU students from the University’s acting public relations director, Ms Sinikiwe Tirivanhu were fruitless.
