MSU students up for destroying bar property

msuCourt Reporter
THREE Midlands State University students yesterday appeared in court facing a charge of destroying property at a bar where they were drinking beer. The three, Edwin Kwenje, Taona Magorogosho and Chrispen Zvimba briefly appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Mr Takundwa Witness Mtetwa. They allegedly broke some glasses at the front entrance of Sunset Bar in North End suburb when they allegedly engaged in a fight with another patron, Mr Butholezwe Matonko. The court was told that Kwenje, Magorogosho and Zvimba were drunk.

Their programmes of study at MSU were not given in court but their addresses were given as Number 11 Harding Road, North End, 3202 Emakhandeni and 15 Harding Road in North End respectively.

The matter was, however, withdrawn before plea when the complainant, Mr Domnic Mazambane tendered an affidavit withdrawing the case.
In the affidavit, Mr Mazambane claimed that the three had undertaken to replace the glasses valued at $313 tomorrow.

The State had sought to prove that on Saturday, Kwenje, Magorogosho and Zvimba were among patrons that were drinking beer at the bar.
It is alleged that at about 9.15pm, a misunderstanding between the three and Mr Matonko ensued resulting in a fist fight.

In the process, the court was told, Kwenje, Magorogosho and Zvimba allegedly broke the glass.
A report was made to the police resulting in the three students’ arrest.

Mr Kudakwashe Jaravaza appeared for the State.
