MSU to train civil servants

MIDLANDS State University (MSU) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Midlands Provincial Affairs Minister’s office which will see the institution training civil servants on critical skills.

Speaking at the signing ceremony held at MSU Gweru campus, Midlands Provincial Affairs Minister Larry Mavima said the MoU will increase co-operation between the two. He said the milestone achievement will see the university training public service staff through courses which are crucial in the implementation of devolution.

“After this signing ceremony, MSU is therefore, expected to collaborate with the province to enhance the capacity to implement development in the province especially as we move towards implementing devolution. Devolution demands more technical skills, hence there is a need to train more technical personnel and that is where MSU comes in,” he said.

Minister Mavima said the institution has the capacity to create a difference as far as devolution is concerned.

“Indeed, the university has the capacity to make huge positive differences in addressing community developmental challenges which form the basis of the existence of all arms of Government. For economic growth to be a success, MSU needs to collaborate with Government to enhance implementation and it has the capacity to do so,” he said.

MSU Vice-Chancellor Professor Ngonidzashe Muzvidziwa said the university will provide expertise on governance.

“In this collaborative partnership, MSU will gladly assist with expertise required for different provincial socio-economic developmental projects drawn from different faculties. We are committed to work closely with the Government to make vision 2030 a huge success.

“We will work tirelessly to identify various areas of development that will contribute to the provincial economic growth,” he said.

The signing ceremony was attended by the Mayor of Gweru Clr Josiah Makombe, heads of various provincial departments, business community among others.
