SEASONED women golfer Yolander Mubaiwa will captain the Zimbabwe Ladies Golf team in this year’s Gilbertson and Page Challenge Tournament to be held at Royal Harare and Chapman golf clubs.

Zimbabwe will have the privilege of hosting the event from July 8 to 13 with several countries like South Africa, Botswana, Zambia, Malawi and Kenya expected to take part.

The Gilbertson and Page Challenge Trophy team will be made up of six players and the tournament will be match play in the singles and foursomes match play format.

Mubaiwa a multiple national and international champion will lead a team that has some upcoming golfers in their bid to defend the title.

The team was chosen on the order of merit after last week’s Strokeplay event.

The ZLGU, led by Margaret Vera, announced the six-member team yesterday. Mubaiwa believes they have a good chance of doing well at this year’s tournament.

“It is particularly pleasing to note that Yolanda Mubaiwa, Batsirai Tilowakuti and Shamiso Makwara are products of the ZLGU Junior Golf programme and have progressed to this level of selection,” Vera said.

The team also boasts of Margaret Nyamukondiwa who is fresh from winning the Zambia Ladies Open a fortnight ago.

Team Zimbabwe will be managed by Thokozile Sibanda. ZLGU are confident the players will deliver.

“Congratulations to the girls selected to represent the Zimbabwe team at the Gilbertson and Page tournament. We wish them all the best as they take up this duty and defend the trophy at home.

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank the selection committee for their work and all team members are required to go into camp on July 8,” said ZLGU in a statement.
