Mubure settles for fifth place in PSA tourney

Squash City Club in Amsterdam, Netherlands, at the weekend.
On his way to a respectable fifth place finish, Mubure (23) first beat Mellisa Meulenbelt of the Netherlands 3-0 (11-5, 11-4, 11-9).
Speaking from his base in Eindhoven yesterday, Mubure said after beating Meulenbelt, he pulled through to the quarter-finals where he met another Dutchman Piedro Schweertman.
Schweertman is ranked 109th in the world and he was just too good for Mubure whom he beat in straight sets 3-0 (11-7, 11-5, 11-8).
“It was a tough match and I tried my best,” Mubure said.
After losing to Schweertman, Mubure went on to play another Dutchman Mitchel Kries, winning 3-0 (11-4, 11-6, 11-9) to secure a fifth place finish at this tournament which was won by Steve Finitsis of Australia.
World number 88 Finitsis beat 77th ranked Kashif Shuja of New Zealand 3-0 (11-4, 11-1, 11-7) in the final.
In the semi-finals, Finitsis beat Neeraj Aggarwal of Australia, ranked 287th in the world, 3-0 (11-3, 11-4, 11-7) while Shuja accounted for Schweertman 3-2 (15-13, 7-11, 11-4, 8-11, 11-9).
Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe junior squash teasm recently took part in the All-Africa Junior Championships in South Africa.
