Earning a certificate as Mashonaland Central’s Best Actress in 1997 became an inspiration for her to take up acting seriously.
Filda Muchabaiwa who plays Mai Shinda in the Bag Rabvaruka series spoke to The Herald Entertainment about her role in the comedy, acting career and other issues.
Muchabaiwa who doubles as an actress and Jah Prayzah’s manageress said she grew up loving acting.
“People used to call me ‘Mamvemve’ a popular name that was used for acting in most plays in schools,” said Muchabaiwa.
She was involved in a number of plays at school though she took a break after her secondary education.
“I took a break after my secondary education because I thought acting was done at schools only. I never considered it would be something serious after school,” she said.
The mother of two daughters said she was happy that she gets time off her busy schedule to go for comedy rehearsals and shooting.
“I am doubling as a manageress and actor. Jah Prayzah is a big artist who needs time and commitment to manage but I just find time to rehearse for acting,” said Muchabaiwa.
In the comedy series called Bag Rabvaruka Muchabaiwa plays the role of Mai Shinda who gets married to a police officer.
She then joins female rapists who go around raping males taking advantage of protection from her husband.
Hell breaks loose after her husband gets fired because of his corrupt activities and Mai Shinda gets arrested and appears in court.
“My family loves my career and now at our music shows people call me with the acting name.
“Some people that see me at Jah Prayzah’s show do not know I am his manager. They just know me as the actress,” she added.
Asked if acting and managing a musiccian leave her with time to be with her family, Muchabaiwa said sometimes they just accept that she is at work.
“They accept that I am at work but during the week I give maximum attention to my family,” she said.
Muchabaiwa won a certificate after a shining performance in a drama she did some years after school. Her mother encouraged her to be bold and take challenging roles.
Born in 1975, the actress grew up in Mhondoro where she did her primary education before moving to Mbare where she did her secondary education.
She owns a house in Budiriro and drives a Mercedes Benz Compressor.
“Women should just take charge of some of these roles and work hard to uplift the society,” she said.
