The Chinhoyi Deputy Sheriff has attached a tractor belonging to suspended Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation chief executive Mr Happison Muchechetere after he failed to settle an undisclosed debt to the Zimbabwe Farmers Development Company (ZFDC).
ZFDC deals in farming implements.
According to a notice published by the Messenger of Court in the Press yesterday under case number 2406/ 14 the YTO 1004, a four-wheel drive tractor will be auctioned on October 11 this year.
The attachment of Mr Muchechetere’s property comes after several other prominent businesspeople and companies lost property worth thousands of dollars to forced auctions over the past few months for failing to settle debts.
Almost on a daily basis the Messenger of Court flights advertisements in newspapers for goods up for sale for outstanding debts.
The businesspeople include former Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe Governor Dr Gideon Gono, who recently had his combine harvester attached over an undisclosed amount of money and Marondera businessman, politician and leader of the Johanne Masowe YeChishanu Apostolic sect, Cde Lawrence Katsiru.
Cde Katsiru lost farm implements and livestock worth nearly US$100 000, which the Deputy Sheriff attached after he failed to settle a debt with Tian Ze, a Chinese company that supports farmers with inputs on a contract basis.
Other business people whose property was attached are Red Fox owner Mr Robert Zhuwawo, who lost 15 head of cattle after he failed to settle a debt with the National Social Security Authority and Harambe Holdings chairman Mr David Govera, who had his Mount Pleasant property auctioned for US$122 000 for failing to settle a debt with Stanbic Bank.
