Mucherahowa attacks Shaya

FORMER Dynamos skipper Memory Mucherahohwa has torn into ailing Dynamos legend George Shaya, accusing him of giving them “soup” while he devoured all the meat.

It shows that even if two decades have passed, since that historic moment when the club reached the final of the Caf Champions League, Mucherahowa is still bitter about the money they were supposed to get.

After The Herald yesterday carried a story about Shaya, who is suffering from dementia and has hit hard times, the former Soccer Star of the Year expressed his opinion on his Facebook page.

Mucherahohwa was even scathing in his comments as he went on to say he didn’t regard the five-time Footballer of the Year as the best player ever and believes Moses Chunga was a better player.

“The five-time Footballer of the Year, and one regarded by many as the best Dynamos player ever, though I think Moses Chunga is the best, it makes me feel so sad,” wrote Mucherahowa.

“Yes, he needs help, we all need help. But remember some of us were not going to need help as we tried our best to avoid that path.

“Do you still remember Mr Shaya? We had US$16 million from the Champions League and, YES, you were the chairman.

“US$16m if you can still remember, if not ask Llyod Bingwani Hove. We fought the battle through thick and thin just to try and make our lives better after football.

“We could have bought houses but guess what, as the chairman, you decided to share the money with some other people who were not even known and I doubt if those people ever attended any of our matches or even kicked a ball before.

“You decided to give us soup whilst you and your gang ate all the meat. You gave us peanuts Mr Chairman, and on top of that you fabricated a false story and suspended us. Out of the little you gave us, you decided to fine us US$5 000 each.”

Mucherahowa continued to tear into Shaya.

“You are lucky that you will get help whilst you are coming from your house in Glen Norah, what about some of us after that US$16m, we will be coming from Mhondoro rural area because we couldn’t afford to buy a house in the city that you had promised,” wrote Mucherahowa.

“The battle is still fresh in our minds and the scars are still visible but nothing to show for it.

“I pray that you get the help you need soon because Pasuwa is also waiting for his US$26 000 and, unfortunately, he is one of those wamakaripisa US$5 000.

“We can forgive but not forget Mr Chairman, sir.

“Anyway, vakuru vakati afirwa haatariswe kumeso. I wish you all the best and a very quick recovery my Chairman.”

Most of the soccer fans who commented on the post supported Mucherahohwa for speaking the truth against bad administrators while a few others said he should not kick a man when he is down.

Percy Cafu Shara said, “chirwere chinesu vanhu tinokangamwa. Thanx for the reminder Memory Gwenzi Mucherahowa,” while Jerry Marimo commented, “very good and well said, they have to be reminded.”

Mario Wuragu was left wondering by all this.

“Memory I have always supported Dynamos since I was still a teenager in Bulawayo with my friend and we would never miss a game Dynamos played in the City of Kings.

“When I moved to Harare I attended every single game you guys played, including the Champions League games, where the money you are referring to was amassed.

“As a simple soccer fan we go to matches to watch soccer players, our heroes, but yes it is painful that the very players who bring in thousands of dollars in the club coffers are treated like rubbish.

“There is nothing wrong in reminding people like George Shaya that in life always treat another human being with respect and dignity.

“We all wish him well but if he had made good use of that money he could have prepared for rainy days. I think Mubaiwa (Kenny, current Dynamos president) reads this,”.

Lordmore Karanda was more sober in his response.

“Regardless of our differences Shaya remains a national icon and Dynamos brand.

“He was not immune to society problems as a person Memory Gwenzi Mucherahowa.

“I understand how you feel about it but we need to learn to forgive and learn from it. Get well soon Shaya paSpaceman apo”.
