Chivhu provincial health services administrator Pazwell Mwazungunya and nine other health officials on Wednesday appeared in court for allegedly flouting tender procedures as well as inflating quotations, swindling Government of more than $11 000. Mwazungunya (42), Judith Mutsvairi (44), Nhamoinesu Chaurura (44), Mabasa Munemo (37), Catson Pfende (63), Irene Machingura (52), Plaxedes Mutubuki (45), Phumelelani Sibanda (47), Tichaona Fambirai (31) and Wilson Mataranyika (40) appeared before Chivhu magistrate Mr Archy Wochiunga charged with fraud and criminal abuse of duty as a public officers.

Mr Wochiunga deferred the matter to March 11 for trial after lawyers representing the 10 asked for time to prepare for the trial as they had not been served with state papers on time.

Prosecutor Mr Corence Chimbadzwa alleged that between 2011and 2012 the acting provincial medical director, Patience Dhliwayo, assigned Mwazungunya to supervise the implementation of the targeted rehabilitation project of Chivhu General Hospital.

It is the State’s case that the two did not consider the State Procurement Board’s approved suppliers’ list. Upon an audit follow up with companies alleged to have produced the quotations, it was revealed that they were all fictitious.
