ZIMBABWE national sevens rugby team captain, Hilton Mudariki is keen to have a stint with a local team before he joins English Championship side Jersey Reds in June.
Mudariki, previously based in Johannesburg, South Africa, will only join Jersey at the beginning of June and has opted to play in Zimbabwe while sorting out paperwork for his move to the United Kingdom. The 25-year-old will most likely turn out for Old Georgians if given the green light by Jersey to play club rugby in Zimbabwe before he travels to the UK.
“I would like to play club rugby in Zimbabwe before I go, I just need to clear that up with Jersey first but it should be okay. Before I go to UK I am going to be based in Zimbabwe, I have to do my paperwork form here as I am on a Zimbabwean passport,’’ Mudariki.
On his future availability for the Cheetahs as well as Sables, the scrumhalf said Jersey and Zimbabwe Rugby Union (ZRU) will work out a plan for him to represent the national teams.
“Jersey and ZRU are going to talk to come up with the best possible way of going about my availability,’’ he said.
Mudariki is leading the Cheetahs at the Sevens World Series qualifier in Hong which started on Friday and concludes today. Zimbabwe are fighting to become a core member of the Sevens World Series which comes with playing in all the tournaments on the circuit.
