FC PLATINUM’S pacy winger Marshall Mudehwe says the injury he suffered in last Sunday’s Chibuku Super Cup quarter-final clash with Dynamos was not as serious as initially feared and is looking to be back in action this weekend.
The Young Warriors attacking midfielder was carried off the pitch on Sunday with about 10 minutes remaining in the game following a nasty challenge from Ocean Mushure.
The platinum miners are set to travel to Bulawayo for a date with Tsholotsho at White City this Saturday. Mudehwe, who missed the first half of the season because of injury, told The Herald that he could be back on the pitch this weekend.
“I was in great pain. He hit me hard with his knee and elbow after I had exchanged passes with Obrey (Chirwa) and it was hurting a lot.
“It’s a lot better now.
“I am glad it’s not the same leg (that was injured at the beginning of the season) but I will have to see the doctor after training,” said Mudehwe.
This could be huge relief to FC Platinum as their coach Norman Mapeza would obviously need all his players available in the Premiership title run-in.
But they will have to do without defensive midfielder Gerald Takwara, who has been one of the stand-out players this season, who has been suspended for accumulating three yellow cards.
FC Platinum are currently second on the log standings, five points behind leaders Chicken Inn. They have had a brilliant run of 14 games without losing in the league campaign.
Despite Sunday’s penalty shoot-out defeat to Dynamos in the Chibuku Super Cup quarter-finals, they should go in as favourites to win their game against Tsholotsho.
“I don’t think we should expect easy games especially at this point when every team is desperate for points.
“Some are now fighting for the championship or to finish on a high and others are looking to avoid relegation.
“But we have been taking each game at a time and we will continue like that. With seven games still to be played this season, I think there is still a lot of work to be done,” said Mudehwe.
Their opponents Tsholotsho are fighting for their lives at the other end of the table.
Fellow league debutants Flame Lily are also in a tight spot and they face a resurgent ZPC Kariba in a lunch-time kick-off game on Saturday at Rufaro.
They will warm the stage for Harare City and Triangle who also clash at the venue later. The PSL have arranged a double-header at Rufaro on the day to allow the live broadcast of the two matches on SuperSport.
