TONGA musician, Bio Mudimba, has announced that he will drop a series of single tracks rather than a full album, citing financial difficulties.
The move, which comes after the artist struggled to record a new album, was previewed by the release of a single track titled Hard Talk featuring Shantel Sithole, which was well-received by fans.
The Kujataja singer told H-Metro last month that he was finding it hard to record an album.
In addition to maintaining momentum and keeping fans entertained, Mudimba hopes that single track releases will prove to be a more effective financial strategy than investing in a full album.
“We are in the process of finalising the release of the album this year.
“On Thursday, we released a collaboration that is part of Sithole’s album which was launched in Harare. It addresses conflicts in families.
“The song talks about discouraging hatred among different societies.
“Our main challenge as artists is finance, which plays a key role in accessing the endless list of our required resources for the projects,” he said.
Mudimba is famed for his creative edge after he introduced his own version of sungura.
Unlike most sungura artists copying household names like Alick Macheso, Mudimba demonstrated his creativity, which has made him a darling of many.
Fellow musicians have also praised him for reinventing sungura.
However, financial constraints have been his biggest letdown at a time his music is enjoying massive airplay.
With the massive airplay he got three years ago when Kujatajata was a hit, many thought Mudimba would be transformed.
He also failed to monetise the hit song after it was uploaded on Youtube by someone else.
Mudimba’s efforts to get the culprit sanctioned hit a brick wall.
