Police in Mashonaland East have arrested a 22-year-old man from Mudzi for allegedly raping an 11-year-old girl after threatening to kill her.
The incident reportedly occurred on August 30, 2025, in Kotwa.
Police spokesperson for Mashonaland East, Inspector Simon Chazovachiyi, confirmed the arrest.
“Circumstances are that on August 30, 2025, at around 7 pm, the juvenile’s mother left her in custody of her two siblings, aged two and six, while she went for a church gathering,” he said.
“On the same day at around 11 pm, the suspect went to the juvenile’s homestead, taking advantage of the absence of their mother and broke into the complainant’s room where she was sleeping.
“The suspect woke up the juvenile and ordered her to follow him, but the complainant refused. The suspect then dragged her outside the room.”
Insp Chazovachiyi said the complainant tried to scream, but the suspect grabbed her neck and threatened to kill her.
“The suspect dragged the juvenile to a nearby river, where he raped her once. After the act he ordered her to return home and went away.
“Upon arrival at home, the juvenile reported the matter to her neighbour. The neighbour took custody of the three minors and later escorted the girl to (ZRP) Zimbabwe Republic Police Kotwa, where they filed a report.
“Police from Kotwa attended the scene. The complainant was referred to Kotwa District Hospital for medical examination and the man was arrested. Investigations are in progress.”
