Mugabe spot on on Syria, UN

THERE is no doubt that President Mugabe is Africa’s political grandmaster, a great visionary and fearless defender of principles that would make the world fair, just and right if implemented transparently and fairly through the United Nations system. His record at all UN summits and his own record at home in Zimbabwe speak volumes not only about his stature as an astute political schemer, but also as someone who has gone through the political mill and come out iron-strong.

This is precisely the reason why the United Sates government and its allies in Western Europe hate him and try to rubbish even the fairest of all elections by African standards that he won in July.

Like or hate him, President Mugabe is one politician who means what he says and one who has been consistent in articulating what he thinks is right.

There is no better description of him than an honest and studious politician.
President Mugabe is bold and factual. He does not mind if his vision annoys his detractors, hence he says things as they are.

At the last UN Summit in New York, President Mugabe was very clear that the American big brother attitude, thuggery and bully tactics should be buried through reforming the UN system. The US delegation might have attempted to walk out after he shamed them thrice but they had already heard him and they have shown that they are not prepared to forgive him.

Who does not know that one on one, Barack Obama cannot match President Mugabe’s intellectual capacity?
Who does not know that Obama derives his power from his country’s military might and economic muscle, while President Mugabe derives his power from his honest and principled stance? In terms of knowing politics, Obama is a small kid. In a reverse deal, an Obama running Zimbabwe as President would have been disastrous and ineffective, for, we all know, the American system runs Obama and not vise-versa.

But President Mugabe, being who he is, does not give a damn what the Americans think about him in person and what he stands for, but he surely was able to tell the world how things should really be, everything else being equal.

Obama and his administration can attempt to rubbish what President Mugabe says, but surely, when Mugabe speaks, the world listens. The UN reforms are long overdue and until such a time when nations are treated equally, regardless of their geo-political size, the UN will continue to dance to the whims and wishes of the greedy and blood-thirsty Americans.

When it came to the most contentious issue of the time, the Syrian conflict, President Mugabe was spot on. The Russian proposal to get Syrian chemical weapon under control has been welcomed by the international community and the separate countries which think it is a real alternative to the US military projects.

While the US thinks about fighting, the world, as seen by President Mugabe, Putin and others is thinking of peaceful solutions. Why can’t the Americans just think of something else other than war?

The Russian idea, which would avert the growth of the military conflict, was supported by the UN general secretary and League of the Arabian States (LAS). The Americans still think of the war. These war mongers!

The US must understand that Western European governments and their political elites, disturbed by increased anti-war protests, also began to discuss this idea, using it for decrease of internal political intensity.

This should be interpreted by the US and its allies that there exists new and more possibilities to give an impulse to a peaceful settlement to the Syrian conflict within the UN framework.

The slight show of readiness by Washington to support the Russian initiative does not mean that the Obama’s administration completely shelved using military force against Syria. It is still working on it, clandestinely.
Supporters of war in Washington and Tel Aviv are continuing to put pressure on President Obama. Turkey and the Gulf States are extremely sceptical about this initiative over Syrian chemical weapons.

In this connection they may try to ruin plans over peaceful settlement of the Syrian problem by organising new provocative actions to show to the international community the inefficiency of the political settlement of crisis.

It would be a mistake to put any limits of time and to designate any terms (as some countries already offered) for the process of getting control over the Syrian chemical weapons.

It should be clear, that it will demand the development of the joint, coordinated actions of the states under the aegis of the UN for an embodiment of this idea. It is also very important to take into account special features of work with the chemical weapon.

The Syrian consent to sign CWC and to destroy its stocks of the chemical weapon means participation in this process of a great number of the international organisations and involvement of their mechanisms for realisation of this initiative. This brings into effect President Mugabe’s vision of an honest, fair and just UN system. This means, the leading role in coordination of all actions should belong to the UN and OPCW, as to the basic organisations, which are capable to prevent bombing of the sovereign state.

The UN’s handling of this particular Syrian war, will effectively determine the future and at least give credence to what veteran statesmen like President Mugabe have had in their vision for a long time.

The UN system should be fair and just to every nation, regardless of its size and political or economic muscle. The UN should be the best arbitrator of conflicts based on facts as opposed to allegiance to the US. – DayAfrica.com
